A research committee has been organized in Japan Society for Finishing Technology since 2006, in order to be established environment-friendly coating specifications onto aluminum alloy building materials in a factory. Experimental research has been promoted and many fruitful results have been continuously reported. A solvent based coating standard specification that is conscious environment-friendly based on the above experimental results have been already published in 2013. However, it is not considered sufficient environment-friendly as long as applying the solvent based paint. Therefore, the additional research has been progressed and a guideline for powder coating standard specifications that is combined the surface preparation without harmful chemicals and the coating process with powder coating has been discussed. A basic concept of powder coating standardization and outline of the guideline are as follows. (1) Anodic oxidation treatment is preferentially applied to the surface preparation. However, chemical coversion treatment would be able to be applied with careful process and quality control. (2) Powder coating that excludes organic solvent has to be definitely adopted. (3) Quality standard for the applied materials are regulated.
