Abstract
Motile enterococci were found in the range of 103 to 104 cfu/g in the muscle of fishery products on TCBS agar. Six strains of motile enterococci were isolated and classified on thebasis of morphological, biochemical, chemical, physiological, and genetic properties. One yellow-pigmented isolate was identified as Enterococcus casseliflavus and three strains of non-pigmented isolatesas E. gallinarum. Two non-pigmented strains were considered as a new species of the genus Enterococcus. The two strains divided the cells in two planes and had 43 mol% G+C of the DNA.
