Abstract
In oder to consider the optimum density of forest road based on road spacing, it is necessary to obtain optimum yarding distance. So, a cost model on logging operation utilizing a double-endless cable yarding system was created and logging cost per hauled unit timber weight (ton) were computed on a few cases of different charging methods for road cost with its cost model. In the computation on the cost model, also, a few models of rectangular logging sites were used. From the example of computation, it is shown that raod cost had effects on logging cost fairly, and that optimum yarding distance tended to become shorter as the hauled timber volume per ha decreased, in such cases that yarding was done for a limitted and small cutting area being away from road.
