Abstract
By conducting a questionnaire survey in Hachioji City, Tokyo, this research has analyzed the maintaining/leasing intentions of Productive Green Land owners and its influencing factors. Results showed that other than individual factors previously reported, some locational factors were independently related to Specific Productive Green Land designation intentions. With the results showing farmland owners' intentions on PGL leasing, we have discussed on preservation methods of urban farmlands in the contemporary context of shrinking suburbs. We have understood that farmlands in areas with low land prices and low ratio of agricultural land are the most vulnerable though in need most of preservation, and leasing the land to new entrants into farming is a relatively possible solution in preserving and maintaining farmlands in those areas.
