Abstract
The Hokkaido Experiment Forestry of Kyoto University is situated in Eastern Hokkaido, where the dairy-farming has developed as the most basic industry and farmers have continuously made pastures from forest lands. Then in this district, there is a competitive relationship between the forestry and the dairy-farming about the utilization of the forest lands. But on the other hand, at a certain stage of the development the forestry played an important role for the farmer's management.
The author investigated Iyasaka, the nearest village from our Experiment Forest this time, and made a research on the actual condition of the historical process of the dairy-farming development. In this paper the author mentioned about the condition before the stage in which the special dairy-farming has been formed.
The settlers began the exploitation work from 1947 in Iyasaka, and about for ten years their cash income mainly depended upon the sale of forest products, especially charcoal making.
