Abstract

Onomatopoeias are useful expression to communicate intuitive image of designs. There are some approaches adopt onomatopoeias to design computer graphics, robot motion or calligraphic fonts. On the other hand, it is difficult to achieve optimal design using only onomatopoeias. Nakamura et al. introduced onomatopoeias to set proper initial values of design parameter in order to obtain optimal design of the calligraphic font. Nakamura’s experimental result showed that the proposed method is useful to reduce user-load to design the calligraphic font. But the experiment was conducted for the fonts whose appearances were easily described by using onomatopoeias. Our study aims to re-evaluate Nakamura’s method. This paper utilized the fonts whose appearances were difficult to describe by onomatopoeias. The paper showed the experimental result and discussed the usefulness of Nakamura’s method.
