Abstract

Recently, educational support robots attract attention from the view point of the learning effect. Previous studies have investigated that a robot based on cognitive apprenticeship theory could improve learning effects in collaborative learning. However, they only have proposed a behavioral model for the robot operated by remote control. Thus, this paper proposes a behavioral model for educational support robots which automatically support learners. The model consists of robot’s supports based on cognitive apprenticeship theory. Moreover, this paper investigates the effects of collaborative learning between college students and robots with our proposed model through a comparative experiment with conventional method which the robot supports learners upon request. Experimental result showed higher degree of intimacy.
