Abstract

Recently, various types of robot partners have been developed. We can realize the natural communication based on the sharing of cognitive environment between a person and robot partner, but the perception of objects and events is required for the sharing of cognitive environment by segmentation based on the perception of difference along with the context. Physical difference can be calculated quantitatively but it is difficult to estimate perceptual difference quantitatively. Especially, the subjective perception of difference depends on his or her personal experience. Bateson discusses the definition of information as a difference which makes a difference, and Miyamoto discusses the importance of a physical difference which makes a cognitive difference in cognitive rehabilitation. In this paper we discuss a physical difference which makes a perceptual difference from the viewpoint of topological intelligence. Next, we discuss the perception of a difference through thought experiments based on topological mapping methods.
