Abstract

Tanks deteriorate daily and various symptoms appear on their interior and exterior surfaces. In particular, corrosion melts the metal and damages the tank, so its inspection is important. Currently, however, inspections are conducted using depth gauges, which measure the depth of corroded areas found visually by the inspector. Therefore, depending on the skill of the inspector, there is a risk of missing corrosion. SfM (Structure from Motion) can generate high-density point cloud data simply by photographing the site, and in the civil engineering field, SfM is also used for formwork management, In the civil engineering field, SfM is also used for form control. However, the applicability of SfM to tank inspections has not been clarified. In this study, the applicability of SfM to the detection of corrosion in tanks will be clarified through demonstration experiments.
