Abstract

In recent years, a declining population and an aging population have led to a reduction in the vibrancy and economic activity of the city. Various local cities have taken various measures to revitalize their city centers. However, they have yet to develop a method to quantify the effects of these measures. In this study, we employed a device equipped with the Internet of Things (IoT) to quantify pedestrian traffic along Kokusai Street. This was done to obtain basic data on the number of visitors prior to the advent of the coronavirus pandemic. Following this period, the implementation of revitalization strategies led to a notable increase in the number of individuals visiting the area, as well as an observed rise in the average duration of their stay. This outcome suggests that the implemented measures have the potential to contribute to the revitalization of the area, fostering a vibrant town center.
