Airplanes generate thrust using jet engines or propellers and produce lift with their wings. In contrast, birds generate lift mainly near the wing root and generate thrust mainly at the wing tips through flapping motion. In other words, birds achieve flight by simultaneously producing both thrust and lift with flapping motion. Most flapping-wing flying robots currently developed use thin membrane wings and primarily rely on thrust for flight. This study aims to develop an efficient flapping-wing flying robot by designing the section from the fuselage to the middle of the wing as fixed wings dedicated to lift generation, and the outer sections as flapping wings that move backward to generate thrust exclusively.
