Abstract
Gastric antral vascular ecstasia (GAVE) was observed in 4 of 24 patients undergoing radiation therapy for gastric malignant lymphoma. One of the four experienced bleeding from GAVE and required argon plasma coagulation therapy. GAVE occurred 3-6 months after the conclusion of radiation therapy and resolved 12-24 months later. Gastric mucosal injuries are not believed to result from radiation therapy when the total dose is 50 Gy or less, but among the four patients, one was exposed to a total dose of 43.2 Gy and the other three to approximately 30 Gy. This suggests that even relatively low doses can cause mucosal injury.
