Abstract
Two patients (Case 1, a 75-year-old woman ; Case 2, a 64-year-old woman) were admitted to our hospital due to acute cholecystitis. Covered metal stent (CMS) deployment had been performed in both patients because of unresectable biliary cancer and pancreatic cancer. Case1 developed acute cholecystitis while receiving chemotherapy, and percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder aspiration (PTGBA) was performed, but three weeks later acute cholecystitis recurred. Case2 developed acute cholecystitis after deployment of CMS. We performed percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder drainage (PTGBD) first, with which cholecystitis resolved ; subsequently, we successfully performed endoscopic ultrasound-guided gallbladder drainage (EUS-GBD) and did not observe any complications. The PTGBD tube was removed several days later. We did not observe recurrence of acute cholecystitis. Internal drainage by EUS-GBD might be useful for maintenance of QOL when PTGBD is difficult to remove.
