Abstract
A 79-year-old-man was referred to our hospital with progressive colon cancer that resembled a submucosal tumor (SMT). The actual diagnosis according to colonoscopy was a depressed lesion in a colonic SMT and the staging from biopsy was group 4. We diagnosed the lesion as early depressed-type colon cancer on a colon lipoma, based on the findings of image-enhanced endoscopy. This is a rare case in which early colon cancer was present in a SMT and was also a depressed-type cancer. Determination of invasion depth according to endoscopy is important for the diagnosis of this type of cancer. This is because depressed-type cancer sometimes infiltrates the SM layer unexpectedly, even if the tumor is small.
