Abstract
Paper was made on the endoscopic retrograde pancreatic parenchymography by the technique with ERCP after giving improvements to the contrast material, its diagnostic significance and some problems awaiting solution. In this method, the normall pancreas was visualized as a uniform parenchymal picture. The reduction of the pancreatic size was also seen in numerous cases of chronic pancreatitis. In cases of pancreatic carcinoma, filling defect of the pancreatic field was seen by this method. Thus it was usuf ul for the diagnosis of carcinomatous extension towards the duodenum and the carcinoma exisiting at the marginal part of the pancreas without affecting the main pancreatic duct. The serum amylase level was elevated in 84% of cases, and the level was normalized within 3-5 days usually. A transient adbominal pain was noted after injection of the contrast material. In order to solve those problems, it is expected to develop the safer contrast materials with lower osmotic pressures.
