Both roentgenography and endoscopy represent essential aids for diagnosing large intestinal diseases. We developed a method of combined use of these procedures on the same day, i. e., barium enema is followed by endoscopy. The present study was conducted to determine the utility of our method experimentally in dogs. For this purpose, the following experimental models were established as diseases to be treated : a) elevated lesion group, b) ulcerative lesion group, and c) inflammatory lesion group. As contrast medium we used a mixture of 53 w/v % barium sulfate and Gastrografin with a ratio of 1 to 1, which we found to be the optimal ratio. By use of this contrast medium we could confirm the utility of our method. No significant abnormalities were found. In the analysis of adverse reactions to Gastrografin.
