Abstract
Aircraft sampling was conducted over coastal and inland China in winter, summer and spring from 2002 to 2004. Aerosol samples were analyzed for water soluble dicarboxylic acids using GC and GC/MS. Here we will report the vertical profiles of the organic compounds over China. The summer samples showed an increase in their concentrations with height until 2.5 km and then a sharp decrease toward 3 km. Simiar vertical profile was obtained when the concentrations were normalized by organic carbon and sulphate, suggesting a photochemical production of diacids in the lower troposphere within the boundary layer in summer. Such a trend was not strong in winter ands spring.
