Abstract
The study was conducted to determine the base metal pollution level in water of Nomi River, Tokyo, Japan. Nineteen water samples from different locations were collected from the whole river. Major anions and base metal concentration in water were determined by ion chromatography and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrophotometry (ICP-MS), respectively. The pH of water ranged from 6.6 to 7.57, electrical conductivity (EC) from 1.76 to 2.02 S m-1, dissolve oxygen (DO) from 11.39 to 15.91 mg L-1 and oxidation reduction potential (ORP) from 249 to 361 mV at different sampling sites. Among the major anions Cl-, Br-, NO3-, PO4−3, and SO4-2 concentration (ranged 7763 to 16010.48 ppm, 18.58 to 35.28 ppm, 19.79 to 28.89 ppm, 0.579 to 1.17 ppm and 754.07 to 1525.76 ppm, respectively) in waters varied significantly from one site to another but F- concentration didn't vary significantly. Final assessment of base metal pollution in water of Nomi River will be made from the study results.
