Abstract
A dominant volatile in magmatic fluids and gases in subduction-zone systems is carbon dioxide, which originates from the mantle and the relative contributions of subducted sediments, such as carbonate and/or sedimentary carbon. In order to better understand the carbon flux in island arc volcanism, we studied Aira caldera, Kyushu, Japan, which is composed of a subaerial volcano, Sakurajima, and a submarine crater, Wakamiko.
