Shale gas methane in groundwater of eastern Canada: carbon fluxes from continents

Abstract

Continental fluxes of methane are not well constrained except for specific environmental compartments . However, the methane seepage rate from continents is an important step of the global carbon cycle that needs to be quantified. The recent development of shale gas exploitation in several countries is a unique opportunity to obtain measurements on the global methane seepage rates.
