The Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant accident released radioactive cesium into the environment. It is known that micaceous clay minerals in soil adsorb it strongly. But, the mechanism of the adsorption is still unclear, which is expected to have strong relation to the atomic scale structure of the micaceous clay minerals. In order to clarify it, we performed numerical simulation studies on the adsorption of cesium to the planer, edge, frayed edge, interlayer sites using the density functional theory and the molecular dynamics.
