Abstract

We studied the microbial reworking of organic matter in marine sediments using the stable carbon isotopic compositions of individual amino acids. We found that about 20-40% of amino acids in marine sediments are derived from microbial biomass, and the reworking process in marine sediments mainly occur in the very early stage of diagenesis.
