Molybdenum concentrations in the ocean are controlled by adsorption to manganese oxides on the seafloor.Mn oxides on the seafloor include todorokite and bouzelite, but molybdenum is adsorbed on a phase considered to δMnO2. δMnO2 is a synthetic product name and is a low crystalline material. As a natural mineral, it is thought to be equivalent to bouzelite or vernadite, but this is not well understood. In order to clarify the effect of the structure of Mn oxides on Mo adsorption, Mo adsorption experiments on δMnO2, burnesite, and todorokite were performed to study the structural differences.
