Abstract

A synthesis method for ferrierite without using organic structural agents was investigated. After mixing aluminum dissolved in potassium hydroxide solution with fumed silica, the product was obtained by hydrothermal synthesis. Under conditions where aluminum dissolved at temperatures exceeding 70 degrees C, ferrierite was repeatedly obtained, but when the aluminum dissolution conditions were below 70 degrees C other zeolites were obtained. The precursor of the product obtained under the conditions in which ferrierite was obtained was gibbsite, one of the polymorphs of aluminum hydroxide. Therefore, it is considered that the formation of gibbsite is essential for the synthesis of ferrierite.
