In root nodule cells of Sophora flavescens and Cytisus scoparius, normal mitoses were observed even in such cells that had been invaded by bacteria. Invading bacteria were found outside the spindle region in each mitotic stage. These seem to imply some type of boundary system in the spindle region which prevents the passage of the bacteria, and this, in turn, seems to prevent these bacteria from interfering with the normal mitotic chromosome movement.
