Abstract
The purpose of this study was to clarify the issues with providing home visiting nursing for support children dependent on tracheostomy positive pressure (TPPV) through a review of Japanese literature. We searched the literature using the Japan Central Revuo Medicina Web ver. 5 electronic database for articles published from 1994 to 2020, with a combination of the following key words: ‘home mechanical ventilation therapy, tracheostomy or TPPV, children dependent on medical technology’, ‘home care nursing or home visiting nursing’. Search results revealed 19 original articles for analysis. Six articles focused their study purposes on understanding and supporting the family. Necessary improvements for home care nursing comprised 63 codes, 21 subcategories, in the following six categories: Improve nurses’ skills involving children and their family; Reconsider the role of institutions regarding home care nursing delivery; Improve the shortage of home visiting nurses; Organize a system of community collaboration/community care; Promote discharge support; and Promote dissemination of information on the situation of children dependent on TPPV to society and conduct further research. This study suggests that it is necessary to improve the skills of home visiting nurses to deliver family-centered care and provide total care with a multi-disciplinary collaboration, and to promote research that focuses on supporting TPPV children.
