Abstract

In this series of papers, the three parameters in the distribution function of tensile data have been estimated according to Gumbel's procedure using the sample moment. This method has some undesirable characters for the estimations. No appropriate one is, however, found in place of this method.
In order to make improvements in Gumbel's procedure, a new method using the minimum variance estimator is proposed. This method improves the fitting of the theoretical distribution to the observed in the middle part on a logarithmic probability paper. But the results of estimation lack in accuracy. This may be attributable to the fact that three parameters can not be estimated at a time, unless the value of one parameter among three is given. This deficiency may be eliminated by repeating the estimation.
