Abstract
Three experiments of the binary blends of EPDM with chlorine containing rubbers, chlorinated butyl rubber, polychloroprene and chlorosulfonated polyethylene, were carried out using the mixing roll.
Dicumyl peroxide, sulfur and brominated alkyl phenol resin were used for the vulcanization of the blend rubbers. Some physical properties of the vulcanized blend rubbers are studied with respect to the blend ratio.
Physical properties of EPDM/Cl-IIR vulcanized with DCP-S mixture were in proportion to the blend ratio, but those vulcanized with S or resin were not completely proportional to it.
In EPDM/CR blend, the degradation of CR was induced by DCP, but any properties of rubber vulcanized with either DCP, S or resin were approximately proportional to the blend ratio. In EPDM/CSM blend, furthermore, the rubbers vulcanized with DCP-TRA mixture indicated a desirable performance at any ratio of blend. The relation of the properties to the blend ratio was linear.
