Abstract
Reaction of styrene-butadiene block copolymer (SBS) and methyl methacryalate (MMA) was investigated in mixer in order to study on the modification of rubber in milling process of rubber. MMA was found to undergo the graft polymerization onto SBS with radical initiator such as benzoyl peroxide(BPO) and azobisisobutylonitrile under nitrogen atmosphere. The induction time of polymerization was confirmed to decrease with increasing the amount of BPO, the temperature of mixing and the revolution of rotor, but one increased with increasing the amount of MMA. The degree of polymerization increased with increasing the amount of BPO and MMA, but one decreased with increasing the revolution of rotor. The physical properties of products was better than that of blend of SBS and poly-MMA, and products showed physical properties similar to that of graft polymers obtained in toluene.
