Abstract
Effect of the unsaturating group content of EPDM and the kind and the amount of additives the vulcanizing adhesion of EPDM compounds onto brass plates with triazine thiol film on surface have been investigated. ZnO and stearic acid had little effect on the peel strength of the adherends. The peel strength, however, was influenced by the kind and the amount of accelerators, and by the amount of sulfur, becouse their additives relate directly with the reaction between the film and EPDM. Sulfenamides were an effective accelerators on the vulcanizing adhesion, and the pKa of amines and stearic hindrance of amino groups in sulfenamides had a great influence on the peel strength of the adherends. Antioxidants such as hindant phenols and amines with bulky groups were effective for the vulcanizing adhesion and the heat resistance of the adherends. Amine components in EPDM compounds were undesirable as they destroy the films. The effect of carbon blacks on the peel strength is due to their reinforce effect. The addition of oil was effective to accelerate the wetability of EPDM compounds onto to brass plates with films. The heat resistance of the adherends were improved by the selection of antioxidants. The adherends had very excellent water proof.
