Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) is a commodity plastic resin which was produced commercially in 1935. Global PVC demand is forecast to increase from 30 million tons in 2004 to 50 million tons in 2020. However, in Japan, the demand of PVC is decreasing gradually from 1998 against the background of the economic slump and the environmental problem. In order to escape from this crisis, the company which produces PVC carried out reorganization and reduction of capacity itself. Moreover, the PVC industry has concentrated on development of recycling technology. In this paper, PVC demand trend, industry reorganization, manufacturing technique trend, environmental problem, and recycling technology are introduced.
