Abstract
Rice bran, rice husks, and rice straw, which are by-products of rice, are used as food, except for rice bran oil, which is squeezed out of rice bran. There is no direct food use. The main applications are carbonized fuels such as dried and solidified biomass pellets and biomass coke, compost fertilizer for agricultural crops from carbohydrates, and tatami matrix as dry material. On the other hand, as a measure against pests related to rice from pest control in agriculture and fisheries, all secondary processed products derived from rice are prohibited from being imported, and biomass pellets, which are ISO standard for fuel, are no exception. This is regarded as a problem by international convention and also poses a barrier to domestic industry. The GUBS Society's International Standardization Promotion Study Group will publish the results of a case study of ISO biomass pellets, which conducted research to eliminate the harms of regulation without benefits and standardize applicable standards for increasing social benefits.
