The author has studied the commuter traffics in Tokyo and its vicinity.
The amount of commuter traffic decreases logarithmically with distance from civic centre. Takaido, Tohohu and Chuo Lines have about 200, 000 coimmutcis a day. Sobu Line has nearly 100, 000.
Four stations of civic centre (Tokyo, Yurakucho, Shimbashi and Kanda) have the most commuters, and some commuters come from a distance about 100 kilometers. In Ochanomizu and Sakuragicho Station, the commuters froin distances are considerably numerous, but in such stations as Numazu, Odawara, Utsunomiya, Tachikaw a and Chiba, such commuters are very few. In the stations of minor importance, very few commuters come froze neighbouring stations.
