An HPHT laboratory grown diamond exhibiting strain and the GR1 defect was examined. A 1.59-carat, D-color, pear brilliant sample showed strain under crossed polarizers, while photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy revealed a weak GR1 peak at 741 nm. PL mapping indicated the GR1 defect was confined to {110} sector, suggesting strain formation during synthesis followed by irradiation treatment.
