Abstract
We evaluated the cellular reaction of macrophage-like RAW264 cells cultured in the medium containing Ti particles with a mean diameter of 10 micrometer. RAW 264 phagocytized Ti particles. The cell viability and NO production of RAW264 cultured in the medium containing Ti particles for two days declined to about 90% those of control RAW264 cells. Such decline appeared to be attributed to phagocytosis-related inflammatory cytokines and oxygen free radicals that reduced the cell proliferation.
