A case of Bronchial Carcinoma

12 year Survival Treated with Blood Transfusion and Anticancer Drugs

Abstract

A 43 Old woman was admitted in Jan., 1962. with one month history of cough and sputum. She had been treated with curative operation and irradiation for cervical cancer in March 1961.
X-ray examination showed a mass at right hiliar region and laboratory deta was almost normal limit except for elevation of E. S. R. (59m/1 hr.).
In March 1962, a r. exploratory thoracotomy was performed. Tumor was found at S10 which infiltrated to upperlobe, hilus and mediastinum, and deemed unresectable.
The histological investigation of the biopsy revealed squamous cell carcinoma.
After the surgery, she was treated by small amounts of anticancer drugs and blood transfusion (900ce).
The chest X-ray filums showed progressive clearing and complete disappearance after 1 year.
Thereafter more than 12 years, she was still alive and healthy.
The only factor which could possibly influenced this result were a large amount of blood transfusion (particulary immunological effect) and noncancerocidal amount of anticancer drugs (4300mg of Endoxan).
