Abstract
In the Kyushu Leper House in which 730 cases of leprosy are taken, the author found 6 cases of dacryocystitis chronica within three months from November 1932 to January 1933, and came to the following conclusions in the result of clinical observation and cultivation of bacilli in the pus:
1) In lepers dacryocystitis chronica frequently is observed after stenosis of the lacrymonasal duct, which is caused by leprous inflammation of pituitary mucous membrane. Especially often it is seen in the lepra tuberosa which has the worse morbid change of the pituitary mucous membrane.
2) It is often found only on one side, especially on the left eye.
3) Some of them accompanied with trachoma, but there seems to be no important relation between them as in healthy persons.
4) Case, in which lagophthalmos and dacryocystitis chronica are accompanied, has a previous history of corneal suppuration. As lagophthalmos is very frequent in lepers, corneal suppuration should be carefully prevented in cases of leprous dacryocystitis.
5) In cases of dacryocystitis chronica pneumococcus (100%), staphylococcus and streptococcus pyogenes are found in a higher percentage than in healthy persons.
6) No leprous bacillus is found in the pus of the lacrymal sac. According to existtence of leprous dacryocystitis the author will mention after histological studies.
