Abstract

In a hyper-aged society, social participation and active roles for the elderly are becoming increasingly important. Maintaining the well-being of both the mind and body is indispensable for seniors to lead fulfilling lives and sustain engagement in societal activities. In particular, preserving cognitive function plays a pivotal role in the quality of life and social involvement of the elderly. This paper will reflect on the changing approaches to preventing cognitive decline over time and provide an overview of the expanding digital health market and ICT-based cognitive training. As an illustrative case, we present our ongoing efforts in utilizing Virtual Reality (VR) for prospective memory training, discussing the novel possibilities brought about by VR as identified in preliminary research. Additionally, the adaptability of technology in the elderly will be discussed.
