Abstract

Yamaguchi Prefecture, which has the highest potential of Hydrogen supply in Japan, has developed an atmosphere for the creation of a “Hydrogen Energy Society” on the basis of “Hydrogen Frontier Yamaguchi Promotion Plan” established in 2004. Specifically, we have promoted the model project which will enable to supply by-product hydrogen produced at the soda factory directly to the household hydrogen fuel cell through the pipeline.

In addition, we have supported the industrialization of hydrogen related technology, such as encouraging the companies to the hydrogen business through developing leading technology like “hydrogen storage tank” by industry-academia-government collaboration. Moreover, regarding another project, research and development on the world’s first hydrogen engine ship have been advanced in the Shimonoseki area.

The remarkable feature of Yamaguchi Prefecture is that the Environment Section and the Commerce & Industry section work together on diffusion, enlightenment, and support of developing technologies and industrialization toward a “Hydrogen Energy Society”. We will strengthen our efforts in order to take the leadership in the creation of a “Hydrogen Energy Society”.
