Abstract
Inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (ICP) was applied in order to determin of 14 elements (Al, Ca, Fe, Mg, Ti, Mn, P, Ba, Ce, La, Sc, Sr, V, Zn) in the volcanic glass sample. Acid digestion of the volcanic glass sample was used for the micro wave digestion system (MDS-81D).
The recommended procedure is as follows:
①Transfer 0.25g of granular (or powdered)volcanic glass sample in to a vessel. Add 7cm3 of hydrofluoric acid (46%), 3cm3 of hydrochloric acid (35%) and 1 cm3 of nitric acid (61%) and swirl. Place a safety valve and cap on the vessel and then tighten the cap using the Capping Station. Place the vessel in the turntable and attach a venting tube.
②Repeat step ① until the turntable contains 6 vessels.
③Turn the MDS-81D exhaust on to the maximum fan speed. Activate the turntable so that it is rotating.
④Program the instrument for 5 minutes at 100% power in program 1, and 5 minutes time and 65% power in program 2. Depress the Start Key and allow the sample mixtures to heat.
⑤Allow the sample solutions to cool at room temperature.
⑥Repeat step ④, ⑤.
⑦Transfer to a 100cm3 heatable beaker and dry at (100-120)℃.
⑧Melting the residue into l mol dm-3 hydrochloric acid (15cm3) and 4w/v% boric acid (l0cm3).
⑨Allow the solutions to cool at room temperature and transfer to a 50cm3 measured flask.
⑩This solution is analysed for l4 elements by ICP.
Analytical results were in good agreement with recommended values for NIES No. 2 and JB-la.
