Abstract
We utilized simple experiments involving a radiometer and optical fiber model for teaching optics in the first grade at Ōsakikamijima junior high school. The students measured the energy of light and total internal reflection of light in an optical fiber. From the results of a student questionnaire, more than 80% of the students expressed interested in both experiments, and about 70% were able to understand both experiments. About 90%of the students were able to understand that total internal reflection is utilized in optical fibers, and over 80% of the students were able to understand that light has energy. About 10% of the students hoped for future occupation that required science.
