This paper will discuss our findings regarding trial Mongolian classes carried out before students took part in self–inquiry activities. These classes were created specifically in cooperation with teachers at New Mongol Institute of Technology, for National Institute of Technology, Hachinohe College students studying abroad. The Hachinohe students who participated in the classes were highly motivated to learn a language other than English, which they have studied for up to six years prior. They also demonstrated a willingness to try and communicate with those whose first language was not English while in Mongolia. Therefore, we felt that the students made progress surpassing what was initially expected.
