The TOPAZ detector has been operating at the e+e-collider TRISTAN at KEK since May 1987. It is a general purpose 4π detector, which consists of tracking devices with a 1.0 tesla solenoidal magnetic field, electromagnetie calorimeters, and a muon detection system as main elements. An outline of the TOPAZ detector is given in this report. Emphasis is on the TPC (Time Projection Chamber), since it has outstanding features in pattern recognition and particle identification among others.
