Our recent study on the operation mechanism of the helium-filled proportional counter (HFPC) at low temperatures (~4.2 K) is briefly reviewed. One of other topics in this paper is liquid-helium counter, for which we tried to develop as a radiation detector and finally found that liquid helium is not available at all for that purpose. The other is position-sensitive proportional counter for neutron diffraction measurements, which we are now developing as an application of HFPC with high gas density (20-60 atmospheric pressures at room temperature).
