Abstract

Changes in the surface wettability of PADC have been evaluated by measuring the contact angles of water droplets on the surface of the detector before and after the proton and heavy ion irradiations. With increasing the absorbed dose, the contact angles decreased below its pristine value of 70 degree. In the case of proton irradiation, anomalous behavior has been observed on the contact angle of water droplets on PADC. The angle reaches to the maximum value of 89 degree from the original value of 70 degree without the exposure at a fluence of 1.0x1013 ions/cm2. Similar experiments have been made after gamma irradiations, UV irradiations and the exposure to corona discharge. In order to evaluate the surface composition, XPS observations were made for PADC, in which X ray irradiation are simultaneously conducted.
