Abstract

Nuclear medicine is a branch of medicine that uses radiation to provide diagnostic information about the functioning of humans or information on how to treat them. We are currently developing a Compton camera apparatus for use as a novel imaging modality of nuclear medicine. It is based on the advanced technology used in Si/CdTe semiconductor Compton cameras developed by the Japan Aerospace eXploration Agency (JAXA). Because Compton cameras don’t require a collimater, Compton cameras have simultaneous imaging ability against the wide energy range gamma rays from a few hundred keV to a few MeV. Thus Compton cameras are thought to become a promising imaging apparatus in medical measurement.
