Abstract
This article provides an overview of the neutron fluence standards, related neutron ambient / personal dose equivalents, and neutron emission rate standards maintained by the authors affiliated with the National Metrology Institute of Japan, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology. In addition to the construction of standards and calibration principles according to the type of neutron source and neutron energy, reduction and correction of the effect of scattered neutrons, which are necessary for precise neutron fluence measurements, are introduced with examples of foreign metrology institutes. Finally, the ISO 8529 series, which is closely related to neutron standards, are introduced. The ISO 8529 series has been revised by incorporating knowledge gained from research activities on neutron standards by national metrology institutes. This article also introduces the revisions that have been made in recent years regarding the representative neutron spectrum of the calibration sources and the neutron generation methods.
