Shirashima Oil Storage Terminal was completed in August 1996. It is located on the otherwise uninhabited Shirashima Island about 8km off coast of the Kita Kyushu. This on-ocean oil storage terminal is one part of the national oil storage base project. The barge shaped floating oil storage tanks are surrounded by a primary oil spill barrier of floating steel and a secondary breakwater barrier.
Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. manufactured the primary oil spill barrier for this terminal.
