A female Japanese rat snake, Elaphe climacophora, laid 3 eggs on 24 July 1977. On 10 September, two snakelings emerged from one egg, and two days later one snakeling each from the other two eggs. The twin snakes are fraternal in nature judging from their coloration and scalation.
