Abstract
Right after practicum students wrote down their reports on practical training by the method of Episodic Description, their teachers gave them suggestions about the cases, and then the followings were revealed about building trust in relationship that is the foundation of childcare. First of all, a practicum student and a child with special needs exists mutually as subjects, and although they have difficulties in understanding each other, they need to be involved in the “education work” as empathetic others using the “nursing care”. Furthermore, building a relationship of trust between the practicum students and the child should form the sentiment and willingness to create an empathetic relationship between the two parties, and also means that the child, as a subject, adjusts his/her attitudes to accept the practicum student’ s wishes. In addition, the practicum students learned the following two things about the methods and environment of childcare for children with special needs. (1) One is the necessity of structuring an environment in stages, grasping children’s interests and concerns. (2) Another is that by building trust in relationship, importance of expanding empathetic relationships within the group and fostering a spirit of yearning for cooperative activities.
